Strawberries are a good organic garden choice for families with strawberries, particularly everbearing strawberries. Children enjoy picking fresh fruit, especially if they can eat it right away.

Keep your plants in a warm, moist environment, if possible. The temperature needs to remain steady and warm so the plants can grow. Heat lamps can be used to promote growth without the necessity of raising your home’s interior temperature.

Perennial gardens should be prepared easily and quickly in the ground. It isn’t as hard as it may seem; you basically just slice down under the turf, flip it over, and spread wood chips four to three inches. Wait two weeks, then dig in and plant the new perennials.

Pine can make for a great type of mulch. Some plants have a naturally high acidic level, and therefore like acidic soil. If you are growing these types of plants, simply gather up fallen pine needles for use in your garden. Simply add a layer of pine needles a couple of inches deep to the plant beds. The needles will decompose over time and provide the soil with acidity.

Do you prefer to eliminate weeds without the use of harmful chemicals? You need to have many layers of newspapers in order to provide proper weed control. Weeds can only grow in sunlight. When you cover weeds with newspaper layers, they suffocate due to lack of light. Because newspapers decompose well with the passage of time, they make great additions to compost. It can look more attractive by adding a mulch layer.

A great tip when running your own organic garden, is to lightly ruffle your seedlings with your hand or cardboard, around once or twice per day. While this appears strange, research shows it can help plants grow larger, versus not petting them at all.

It can be hard at times to grow your own organic garden, yet it is so much more rewarding in the end. While chemicals offer an easy solution to many common gardening problems, the organic method is far healthier for you and everyone you share your food with.

Add mulch for healthy soil. Mulch will protect the soil it covers. It will keep the soil cool in the summer, which protects the roots. This helps soil keep its moisture by reducing the rate of evaporation. This also helps control the weeds.

Try to avoid over-watering your plants. Too much water will make it more difficult for the plants to absorb the nutrients they need from the soil. Always check to see if rain is in the forecast before watering your plants. After reviewing the weather forecast, you can decide whether or not to spend the time and resources watering the garden.

Growing your garden at home might not be the most convenient thing for you, but you will save a lot of money and always have the confidence that what you’re eating and feeding your family is as fresh and as healthy as possible. Use the tips you’ve learned here and get started on your garden today.
